Meet Louisa

first impressions matter!

Louisa works for Deloitte, where she was assigned a project to work in Chile. Three months before her departure, she approached Languages at Home seeking help with Business Spanish specific to Chile. Louisa needed her tutor to be familiar with vocabulary specific to her industry and Chilean current affairs. She found all the answers at Languages at Home. This is Louisa's story:

Louisa, Deloitte. London (UK)

Question. Had you studied Spanish before?

Answer. Yes, I have a degree in Spanish.

Q. Why did you decide to take lessons with Languages at Home?

A. I decided to take lessons with Languages at Home because I had very specific needs (Business Spanish specific to Chile) which I could not have found anywhere else.

Q. What are the advantages of studying with Languages at Home?

A. The advantages are being able to have the lessons exactly when and where it is convenient for you, and of course being taught exactly what you need. In my case I was already fluent in Spanish, I just needed to develop my understanding of the Chilean accent and culture and specific business terminology. Also, I have a very busy, demanding working life and I often work away from home, which makes attending evening classes very difficult for me. With Languages at Home I could have lessons via Skype at home or in my hotel in the late evenings or at the weekend.

Q. How did our lessons help you?

A. The lessons helped me develop the Spanish that I needed to make an excellent impression in Chile and improve my job prospects!

Q. What did you think of the materials and recommendations from your tutor?

A. My tutor had excellent recommendations, for example he recommended specific videos on YouTube where I could hear typical Chilean accents, he also recommended a news website where I could follow what was going on in Chile and get familiar with Chile before I went out there.

Q. How does our teaching differ from other schools / methods you have used before?

A. Languages at Home offers classes which are tailored to exactly what you need. Before, I had only ever been in group classes where you progress at the pace of the group - which may be too slow or too fast for you, it could also be too easy or too difficult and you could get bored. When you have one-on-one classes, you control the pace and what you learn. I could never find a group class for Chilean Business Spanish and culture for fluent Spanish speakers!

Q. What did you enjoy the most about the lessons?

A. I enjoyed the progress I saw during every single lesson. I learnt so much in a short space of time and Cristobal [my tutor] was an excellent teacher, very easy to get along with and knowledgeable.
