Languages at Home was launched in September 2014. Since then, the team has helped students to change their lives, and to make their dreams come true.

The secret of the success Languages at Home enjoys is the strict recruitment process of the teachers, the continuous monitoring of the progress of the students and the quality of the teaching materials.

In 2010 Keyla García, founder of Languages at Home, visited Sri Lanka. Months earlier she had decided that she wanted to learn Sinhalese to be able to speak with the locals during her holidays. "I remember it was impossible to find a school or a tutor to suit my needs, not even in London (where I live), one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world." Keyla started to think about other people in the same situation.

"Learning languages is one of those things people tend to neglect due to time pressures, because it can be inaccessible or due to busy daily schedules", Keyla explains. "That’s a shame, because there are many advantages to being able to speak several languages, it empowers you on many different levels. Not only does it enable you to speak with a larger number of people, and bring you closer to other cultures and customs, but it also improves your communication skills, provides easy access to global information, and it is one of the skills employers value the most. It also increases our attention span, perception and memory. It is said that speaking foreign languages even helps protect us against  Alzheimer’s."

Upon her return to London, Keyla started working on her most ambitious project to date: an online language school capable of adapting to every student’s needs. Keyla soon realized that many people could benefit from Languages at Home. "That was the moment when I started to share my thoughts with language tutors and carefully consider their feedback."

There is something that has set Languages at Home apart from the competition from day one: its ability to change and adapt to the student’s needs.

"Our live bespoke one-to-one language tuition with native teachers is available online 24/7, which means that we can be completely flexible."

"Some of our students attend their lessons from 11:00 pm onwards because that is the only spare time they have. I have been a student myself most of my life, that is why I understand the challenges of learning or improving one’s language skills."

"Languages at Home has a very simple mission: to make things easy for our students. All our courses are tailor-made. We can work around complex schedules, exceptional situations and unusual requests."

Languages at Home was launched in September 2014. Since then, the team has helped students to change their lives, and to make their dreams come true. "Our teachers work with all levels and can design lessons to suit almost any need our students may have. We have yet to face a challenge we can’t take on! We have helped our students to be self-sufficient when they speak a foreign language, for instance, during their doctor’s appointments, we have trained professionals in business Spanish, we have successfully trained students for their IELTS exams in preparation for higher education abroad, etc. One of our most exciting recent projects involved a presentation given by one of our students at a prestigious culinary institution, Le Cordon Bleu."

"Our goal is to ensure that each student can achieve their dreams, whether it is to study abroad, enjoy personal development or gain career progression.”

In January, Languages at Home welcomed a new student from Holland. He had a trip to Mexico scheduled in March to attend his son’s wedding with his Mexican fiancée. “We started to work with one goal in mind: that our student would be able to communicate effectively with the bride’s family in Mexico. We had such positive results that he decided to do the toast in Spanish on the wedding day for all the guests. Many people find speaking in public a very challenging task, particularly in a foreign language. Our student was delighted because we exceeded his expectations, and for our team it was very emotional to be part of such a special moment in his life."

The secret of the success Languages at Home enjoys is the strict recruitment process of the teachers, the continuous monitoring of the progress of the students and the quality of the teaching materials. This, however, entails great responsibility: “We have the trust of each and every one of our students, that is the reason why we work to achieve the best possible results", says Keyla.

Keyla also talks about her motivations running Languages at Home: “There are two aspects of my work which drive me to give it my all every day. First, to witness how every student grows and develops every step of the way and seeing how their lives change gradually thanks to our language training, whether the change happens in their personal, academic or professional lives. The second thing that I enjoy the most about my work is to be able to create job opportunities for professionals in many different countries. I have a dream team, and I am very proud of all of them."

"Each member of the team is always ready for the next challenge. This helps our students to stay motivated at all times and focused on their individual goals. We like to keep the bar as high as possible.”

The team at Languages at Home also enjoys contributing to the community on a different level. “Sign Language at Home is the programme through which we provide free live sign language classes to the deaf community, as well as their families and friends. This is something that fits really well with our values, and we are extremely proud of our work in this area.”
